The Lake Annecy area is a paradise for cyclists whatever the level. For the adventurous, there are the numerous beautiful and challenging routes either side of the Lake. Details of suggested routes are available at the apartment (gîte) apartplage.
It is of course possible to cycle around the lake, although at the present time, there is only a dedicated cycle track on the west bank. The route measures 40km and an averagely fit person can circumnavigate the lake in just about 2 hours. Most of the route is flat and more than half of it is on dedicated cycle tracks. There is a 1km section around Talloires where the road is steep with sharp bends, so conserve your energy for that climb!
Tip : Why not make a day of it and stop for lunch along the way at the many restaurants situated in the villages bordering the lake or if the going gets hot, refresh yourself with a swim in the lake in the tranquil area between Doussard and Angon where the road runs directly alongside the lake.
The Cycle Track
This cycle track was created at the site of the old Annecy to Albertville railway line. Use this as an opportunity to discover the west bank. It is 35km long running from Annecy to Ugine on the west side of Lake Annecy and work is in progress to extend it as far as Albertville. It is also a popular route for rollerbladers.
